Take Part in National Disability Employment Awareness Month
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
A job is about more than a paycheck. It is about purpose, self-sufficiency, independence, connection, and having the opportunity to contribute your skills and talents to the world around you.
Across New York State, people with developmental disabilities are building careers, strengthening workplaces, and helping businesses succeed. Yet people with disabilities still face far too many barriers to employment.
That is why National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) is both a celebration and a call to action. At OPWDD, we are committed to creating more opportunities for people with developmental disabilities, not only through the services we provide, but within our own workforce. And we want to see even more businesses and employers across New York reap the benefits of embracing inclusive employment to discover what so many already know: inclusive employment makes workplaces stronger.
Throughout October, as we observe NDEAM, I’m asking you to help us spread that message and grow New York’s inclusive workforce.
Share our videos that capture this important message:
Encourage businesses in your local community to take the next step to support inclusive employment by signing our EmployAbility Pledge!
Support those employers who have already joined the EmployAbility movement. Those businesses are proudly featured on our EmployAbility Honor Roll. Every time you patronize them, you cast your vote for inclusive employment.
Take Action if your business is ready to take the next step, knowing that we are here to help. OPWDD, our service provider partners, and our EmployAbility Toolkit can help businesses find, train, and employ qualified people with disabilities. Email us at [email protected] to get started today.
Our goal is simple: every person who wants to work should have the opportunity to bring their talent, skill, ambition, and abilities to the workplace. Together, we can build a New York where inclusive employment is how we do business.
Sincerely,
Willow Baer
